The American tennis prodigy, Coco Gauff, has recently made headlines for her spectacular campaigns during the North American hard court swing season. With a remarkable display of her talent, the 19-year-old outperformed some of the top players in order to reach the quarterfinal round of the Masters 1000 event in Toronto. But that’s not all. The currently ranked world No. 6 later clinched her first-ever WTA 1000 title after her straight-sets victory against the Czech, Karolína Muchová in the Cincinnati Open.

Given her recent campaigns in the hard court season, the WTA player is being lauded by some of the prominent figures, including, the Hall of Famer, Jimmy Connors. While lavishing praise on her young compatriot, the American tennis legend also brought to light the ‘two things’ that Gauff has to figure out in order to prevail in the US Open.

Jimmy Connors gives a shout-out to Coco Gauff ahead of the US Open

In his podcast show Advantage Connors, the Hall of Famer recently lauded the 19-year-old player’s recent performances against some of the top guns including the world No. 1, Iga Swiatek, during her Cincinnati Open triumph. Jimmy Connors said, “Yeah, good victory. Good victory there, confidence victory. Big time. You know, that kind of sets, you know sets the past losses besides that I’ve got the last win over you.”

Despite her outstanding performance throughout the hard court season, the ATP legend claimed that Coco Gauff still needs to sort out “two big things” before the US Open. He said, “You know, confidence is the big thing. It’s The big thing knowing, you know, and knowing what you could do and when to say this, that I was always taught that there’s two things that you had to had to figure out on your own.”

Apart from boosting her confidence levels ahead of the Grand Slam event, Connors said, “And one is fear, figuring that out. And I say that because you go into these matches, and you think that you have it, and you’ve got the confidence, and you have everything going for you. And you go in, and you think that there’s nothing they can happen to take away from that.”

Ahead of the US Open, the former tennis ace has already given a huge shout to his young compatriot, who might once again lock horns with the world No. 1, Iga Świątek.

Will Gauff and Świątek face each other during the US Open?

This hard court major event’s fixtures have been released, and the Polish tennis star will start her campaign against an unseeded player. In the first round of the US Open, the top seed Iga Swiatek will square off against the Swedish tennis player, Rebecca Peterson.

Gauff, on the other, is set up for a matchup against a qualifier in the opening round of her home Grand Slam event. However, Swiatek and Gauff have been put in the same half, and it’s possible that they may face off against one another once more in the quarterfinal round.
