In 2009, legendary American tennis player Andre Agassi published his controversial book ‘Open’, where he talked about his substance abuse. Due to his confession, he suffered many criticisms from fans and former players. Despite all that, he always found support in his wife, Steffi Graf.

In an interview, the 8-time Grand Slam champion talked about the support he received from his wife while writing his book. Notably, Agassi and Graf got married back in 2001, and since then, they have been inseparable.

After the launch of his book, Agassi told that he confessed everything to his wife Graf before their romantic relationship began. “She knew about everything going back to the fall of ’99. That is when we fell in love and we didn’t fall in love under false pretence. I had disclosed it all. So the stories in my life didn’t surprise her, but the story of my life was quite powerful for her. When you see it in black and white, you understand yourself,” the 8-time Grand Slam champion said.

Later, Agassi said, “She had a huge involvement… Just her support and the time it took me. Thousands of hours away from the family trying to do this the right way.“
Notably, Agassi and Graf started dating in 1999, and two years later, they married each other. Before that, Agassi married the actress Brooke Shields in 1997, which lasted only 2 years.
Agassi and Graf’s tennis career
Many consider Agassi as one of the greatest American male tennis players of all time, as he won 8 Grand Slam titles. Moreover, he was one of the very few players to win a Career Grand Slam and an Olympic Gold medal. Apart from 8 Grand Slam titles, he also won 60 career titles in singles.

As for Graf, she is arguably one of the greatest female tennis players in history. The German tennis player won 22 Grand Slam singles titles, 3rd most in history. Moreover, she is still the only female tennis player to win a ‘Golden Grand Slam’, as she won all four Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal in 1988.

Although Agassi’s tennis career lasted pretty long, almost 21 years, Graf’s tennis career did not, as she suffered many injuries. After losing in the finals of Wimbledon in 1999, she announced her retirement from the sport. As for Agassi, he retired from tennis after the 2006 US Open.
