Now that, Jannik Sinner beat Holger Rune to finally climb straight up to the finals against Djokovic, there is incredible anticipation among all. Following the excitement, Serena Williams’ former coach and famous tennis analyst Rennae Stubbs shared her exclusive opinion about the finals.

Since Djokovic’s performance is quite extraordinary this year, critics believe defeating him in the finals won’t be a piece of cake. However, Stubbs offered a great perspective on the situation, fuelling more fire to fans’ anticipation about the finals between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.

Serena Williams’ former coach slammed people who advised Sinner to lose against Rune

Holger Rune was defeated by Italy’s Jannik Sinner in a three-set match recently. This gave him a swift victory to challenge the world’s number one in the ATP 2023 finals. Now, many believe that since Djokovic is in his best form, Sinner’s strategic defeat against Rune would have let Djokovic out of the tournament.

It was also because Sinner recently defeated Djokovic in the same tournament but in the group stage. Djokovic’s exit from the tournament would have made it way more easier for Sinner. But Rennae Stubbs, Serena Williams’ former coach, has a different opinion to offer! She said- “The people that say Sinner should have tanked his match to not have to play Novak again are just clueless about what it takes to be a champion!

Rennae Stubbs added to her comment that while playing against Djokovic if Sinner loses then it is a great thing for him. This is because “he loses to the better player on the day.” Similarly, she mentioned how Sinner’s win might become one of the great weeks in the history of the ATP tournaments. Now Stubbs truly has a  point! Winning against a strong competitor makes the match more interesting and worth remembering for the winner as well.

Rennae Stubbs believes playing against Djokovic is young players’ biggest recent advantage

This is not the first time when Stubbs dropped her exclusive remarks in favor of the challenges taken by young tennis players. Previously when Sinner defeated Djokovic during a match in the ATP Tournament, Renne expressed her surprise and thrill seeing the new generation of tennis players achieving such a great feat against stalwarts like Novak Djokovic.

Rennae Stubbs commented- “I think it’s good for the sport that we’re having these players get so close to Novak, the young players like Rune and, of course, Jannik Sinner beating him,” While she never failed to support the youngsters of tennis, she didn’t forget to mention Novak as the “greatest player ever.
