“Has to Be About Simmons Right?”: Joel Embiid Confuses NBA Fans With Cryptic Tweet About AFCON 2022
Around three months into the season, most people are aware of the Ben Simmons-Philadelphia 76ers issue. Naturally, everyone from fans to Simmons’ teammates have commented on the matter. Joel Embiid himself has shared his views on the situation, while also trying to lead his team to a better record.
Of course, Embiid is reasonably active on social media. His words and posts are often a candid representation of his thoughts, sometimes even a reference to some other event.
One such recent tweet from Embiid had people confused in his replies. While many thought it to be a subtle dig at Simmons, it was referencing his home country Cameroon and their Africa Cup of Nations result. Looking at the responses, however, people seem to have misunderstood.

I love when players post shade like this and try to defend it with some stupid stuff like
"Nah, I was on the can and just really needed some toilet paper"

The reactions from fans have been iconic. While a few explained in the comments that it was about Cameroon’s performance at the Africa Cup of Nations. By the looks of it, not many fans were convinced and continued to react with some Ben Simmons memes and gifs. Certain responses were confused. Though Embiid most likely meant this about AFCON, there is no way to confirm.

Why would fans confuse Embiid’s tweet?
One reason for people’s confusion might be the fact that not everyone is aware of AFCON 2022. Though they might know about the event, they might not be aware of the schedule. Furthermore, this could be connected to what Shaquille O’Neal said about Simmons very recently. The NBA legend has often referred to Simmons as a ‘soft’ player who is not stepping up and playing alongside Embiid.

Naturally, to a usual NBA fan, this tweet could only be a dig at Simmons.
That being said, the 76ers are currently placed third in the Eastern Conference with a 31-20 win-loss record. Embiid – who is leading his team – has been averaging 29.1 points per game.
