“Abuse the Body, You’re Going to Regret”: Despite Admitting to Using PEDs, Arnold Schwarzenegger Stands Against Modern Bodybuilders Making Wrong Choices

Bodybuilding icon, Arnold Schwarzenegger is considered as the face of the sphere. Therefore, his long association with PEDs, even though supervised, served as a significant influence in the industry. Concluding his career in 1980, after winning his seventh title, the former athlete has often revisited his prime days and addressed his concerns for modern-day bodybuilders depending on steroids. 

Four decades after his retirement, Schwarzenegger once again opened up about the issue in an interview with Men’s Health on Wednesday. He warned the bodybuilders from going there while trying to keep up with the fast times of today. Besides, he even shed light on his past and pointed out that his case was different since drugs weren’t illegal back in the day.

As per the publication, the 75-year-old legend attempted to conclude the ongoing debate on steroids and the way his career was also influenced by it. He claimed that his regime mainly circulated around two drugs, testosterone, and D-Bol or Dianabol. His doses were 100 mg of testosterone per week whereas the latter was three a day, that is 15 mg every day, per reports.

After the Anabolic Steroids Control Act was passed in 1990 by Congress, steroids became illegal. Regardless, he is aware that his association with the PEDs deems his advice against them, as futile. Yet, he suggested in the interview, “Don’t go there. Yes, we are at a time now where we always look for the easy way to make money, the fast way to get rich, the easy way to be an influencer.”

Moreover, The Austrian Oak warns the athletes that any form of abuse to the body will turn back on them in the future. “Any time you abuse the body, you’re going to regret it later on. I want young people to know that I have seen people getting kidney transplants, and suffering tremendously from it,” the star athlete asserted. Nonetheless, in a previous interview, Schwarzenegger once defended his association with PEDs throughout his career.

Talking to ABC News’ host, George Stephanopoulos in 2005, the Hollywood star once admitted to using steroids openly. After defeating the legend, Sergio Oliva in 1970, it was the start of his high-achieving career. Yet, PEDs seemed to be a constant component of his professional reign, as the former IFBB pro claimed that he doesn’t regret it since it was legal at that time.

“I have no regrets about it because, at that time, it was something new that came on the market, and we went to the doctor and did it under doctors’ supervision,” he disclosed. Despite that, he stands against it on the matter, and would not encourage it to the upcoming athletes.

It might be very difficult for young athletes to consider his advice, owing to his association with steroids. D-Bol is a popular steroid even today and its usage remains prevalent among athletes. Nevertheless, his expertise and wisdom shall influence them to steer clear of the substances.
