When it comes to pre-workout routines, many fitness enthusiasts seek that extra edge to maximize their performance and achieve their fitness goals. While the market offers a plethora of specialized supplements, one natural and widely accessible option often overlooked is coffee. Celebrities, just like the rest of us, have their own morning rituals, and for Scottish actor Sam Heughan, it begins with a steaming cup of coffee.

During an interview with Men’s Health, Heughan revealed, while discussing his nutrition and food habits, about his obsession with caffeine. However, unlike bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger, Heughan believes that coffee can be a con too at times.

Sam Heughan is famous not just for his captivating on-screen performance but also for his commitment to leading a healthy life. Heughan strongly believes in the benefits of rising early, particularly when working on the Outlander series. To kickstart his day with energy, he relies on coffee as a trusted companion. Like many coffee lovers around the globe, Heughan recognizes the significance of this ritual and how it can enhance his productivity and overall well-being.

Elaborating on his take on coffee, Heughan stated, “If I’m shooting on Outlander, especially we start the day pretty early. I’ll have water with lemon just to start. Quite quickly I will have some coffee. I’m a big coffee fan. It’s got to be strong black espresso based. I can have way too much and what I found is coffee then has a negative effect and actually makes you more tired.”

Heughan’s take on coffee is a lot different than the common belief that most individuals have about caffeine. While he has a love for coffee, his body tends to feel tired after consuming it. Bodybuilding veteran Arnold Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, advises caffeine intake to improve the results and benefits of working out.

Many fitness enthusiasts strive to optimize their body composition by shedding excess fat. Coffee can be valuable in this regard. Caffeine has been shown to stimulate metabolism, increasing the rate at which the body burns calories. This was exactly what was pointed out in an edition of Arnold’s daily newsletter from February 2023.

Schwarzenegger suggested anywhere between 100 to 300 mg of caffeine, that is 1-3 cups of coffee. Anything more than that and your body might grow more and more tolerant towards it. While exercising alone can always give you the same benefits, caffeine boosts the benefits significantly.
