After Waiting for Arnold Schwarzenegger for 9 Years, the $789 Million Franchise Finally Moves On Without Him

Film icon, Arnold Schwarzenegger gained recognition in the film industry after his grand feature in the 1977 documentary, Pumping Iron. Since then, he has been part of several epic box-office franchises like Terminator and Expendables. While the actor starred in all parts of the James Cameron-led films, he decided to skip the fourth part of the $789 million worth Expendables franchise.  

A recent post by Lionsgate Movies on YouTube featured the trailer of the upcoming film, Expendable 4, almost a decade after the third part’s release in 2014To the fans’ surprise, Schwarzenegger is missing from the box office hit film this year.

The trailer features the Expendables veterans like, Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, and Dolph Lundgren but misses out on two action legends from the franchise. Owing to his serious health condition, Bruce Willis retired from his acting career recently, whereas, Arnie is simply “done with it.”

Hence, the directors decided to move on without the Hollywood star and work on the sequel with the other actors. The official trailer was released only a few hours ago today, presenting riveting glimpses from the action movie. Moreover, action star Megan Fox, and star rapper, 50 Cent also feature alongside Statham.

In an interview, Arnie revealed that he initially played a part in the movie as a favor to his good friend, Stallone. After its success, he was convinced to perform in the subsequent parts as well. However, after the third part, the 75-year-old actor claimed that was it for his character, Trench in the trilogy. Yet, he hopes to work with the Rocky actor sometime soon. Regardless, Expendables 4 will be hitting the theatres on September 22, and the fans can’t keep calm. 

What Expendables 4 will be about? 

In the movie, Statham takes center stage as the knife expert, while Stallone plays the supporting role of Barney Ross. The two stars act as the leading characters in the movie, while other favorites like Randy Couture and Dolph Lundgren are set to return.

Interestingly, Expendables 2 was recorded as the highest-earning film from the franchise, having amassed $315 million, with a total gross revenue of all three films to be $809 million.

Fans might be disheartened to not see Arnie in action with the other stars, fighting villains and saving the world. But as per his insinuation, a film featuring him and Sly shall make up for it.
