In a recent podcast, Schwarzenegger was asked how he managed to fix his physique and make it into something so shredded. In fact, he was also asked whether he gave more importance to diet or exercise. The 76-year-old bodybuilder answered with a recollection of how he improved his diet with the collaborative efforts of his friends.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was asked to cut out on desserts

Schwarzenegger has never been a dieter. “I learned a little bit about that I was never really a diet expert I got my definition from overtraining,” Arnie said in the podcast. This thought process was backed by his stories of how he received help from the 3X Mr. Olympia Frank Zane and his friend Franco Columbu. He recalled, “I think there were a few basic things like milk products that Frank Zane and Franco both were very adamant about for me to cut out and for me cutting out the milk products alone helped me a lot to get more defined.”

Moreover, Arnold Schwarzenegger also pointed out that there was another thing that he was advised to cut out of his diet, which visibly showed results. He revealed, “The other thing was to have desserts. I had no concept really at that time about, you know, desserts and all that stuff and I just would eat desserts after every meal and they said cut out dessert three months before and that’s what we did.”

As he delved into the help he received from the greats regarding this diet, The Austrian Oak also revealed a fun story from back then. Because they were really starved of Carbs, the bodybuilding beasts together sneaked out to have some food on the night before contests.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane’s House of Pie journey

Arnold Schwarzenegger unveiled the sneaky act he and Zane used to do the night before their shows. He confessed that both of them would go to the House of Pie to have a whole Cherry Pie. He said, “Frank and I would go to the House of Pies here on Fifth Street across the street from Sukus and Santa Monica and we would eat a whole Cherry Pie. But it was like because we were was so starved of carbohydrates that it somehow we blew it.”

However, he also affirmed that it did not do much harm to their body because it was too soon for the real contest. He remarked, “It didn’t hurt anymore it was too late because the next day it was we went to New York for the Mr Olympia contest and we won and he won his Mr Universe and Mr World contest and I won the Mr Olympia and everything was good and fine.”
