

Phantom pain neuropathy is a chronic pain that a patient who has amputations goes through most of their life. Veteran bodybuilding?champion Flex Wheeler had to get his right leg amputated in 2019 and he deals with this pain at a severe level. He has always been open about his journey as well as his experience with pain and urged doctors to do more research about it.

In the latest podcast with Rick Richey named the NASM CPT Podcast, where he shared his experience with the pain. He also showed his disappointment at the medical staff and their research.

Flex Wheeler talks about the chronic pain he went through
He spoke in the podcast about his medical ailment. Before he got phantom pain neuropathy, He experienced severe circulatory vascular system problems due to which he had muscle pain for a long time. In the podcast, Rick asked him about his life-changing surgery and the physical pain he went through.
Wheeler stated that he realized that his muscle pains were not normal since he knew what a muscle tear or cramp felt like. Unfortunately, the doctors did not believe him and passed it on as normal muscle pain. He had also gone through a kidney transplant when he was young so this was not his first time facing a medical problem.

Wheeler was disappointed and stated, ?So, every time I took 5 or 10 steps it would just cause pain.? He also stated, ?It is heartbreaking how little our doctors know these days but you know I went to the ER I went to the best doctors, best hospitals here?for years…still the pain is getting worse.? The doctors never tried to go deeper to research the problem. Finally, he found his physician and finally found a solution that was worse than pulling a muscle or a torn muscle. He has shared his disappointment with the medical industry before as well on his Instagram.

Flex Wheeler is angered and calls for better scrutiny of drugs before prescribing
In a previous video on Instagram?Wheeler was teary-eyed, and gave a detailed update on his health. He spoke about the drug Amitriptyline and its side effects. Wheeler said,??I?m so angry, I?m so angry that today?s society, there?s an old saying, ?take two Aspirin and call me in the morning,? doctors are saying try this drug and tell me how it works for you. And you guys need to be diligent. Ask your doctors what are all the side effects that are possible. The majority of drugs that I?m on, mine are like 10-fold. I get the extraordinary, extreme versions of it?.
He had all the side effects that a person could have and the legend with multiple Arnold Classic wins was urging for a better healthcare system.?
