Despite Nearly Losing His Life, Then 71-Year-Old Arnold Schwarzenegger Returned to Gym to Look Jacked for $196 Million Film Within 3 Months of Surgery

Even a bodybuilding legend cannot escape from the inevitability of human limitations. Despite being overtly health-conscious and fit, Arnold Schwarzenegger once battled serious health concerns after his third open heart surgery in 2018. The Hollywood star was scheduled to return for the filming of Terminator 6 but due to his surgery, everyone was in doubt. 

Yet, Arnie was not discouraged. Three months after the surgery, the former athlete was back in the gym, determined to ace his $196 million budgeted cyborg sequel. A recent interview surfaced on YouTube that displayed Arnie recalling his ordeal with glimpses from the time.

As per the interview, Arnold, 71, was ready to overcome any hurdle that would keep him away from the gym and filming. His zealous efforts began in the hospital itself after he learned that the doctors had made a mistake that caused internal bleeding in his heart. Thus, with another surgery in line now, the athlete wanted to get out of his bed.

Ditching death, Arnold started taking small steps around the hospital. Starting with 10 steps, he was soon strolling around the hallway with his “buddies” around to cheer him up. “I knew I wasn’t doing well, I looked like an idiot,” he said. Unsurprisingly, the Austrian Oak aced his recovery mission.

Arnie acknowledged, “so we did it because I had a positive attitude I knew exactly how I’m gonna get there I had the support system.” With the love and support of his family and friends, the actor was back on his feet and ready to work on his next movie. Nevertheless, the actor’s heart problem was a rather serious one, and hereditary. Thus, it is worth noting that he dodged fatality with his champion’s mindset.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s family heart condition

Arnold’s mother, Aurelia Schwarzenegger was first diagnosed with the heart illness, bicuspid aortic valve, a matter she had been hiding from the family for years. “It was the first time I heard,” he recalled in an interview once. Even his grandmother had it, and passed away aged 67. Concerned, Arnold went through a checkup and was diagnosed with the same.

After undergoing a series of surgeries, as recently as 2019, Arnold’s mind was ingrained with the fact that, although cured, he still needs to be wary of his condition. Hence, by imposing limits on his alcohol consumption and also incorporating regular fitness into his lifestyle, the bodybuilding legend shall never allow the condition to catch up with him.
