Ronnie Coleman lived his life to the fullest before retiring from the realm of competitive bodybuilding. He was in the police force before becoming a full-time bodybuilder. What might come as a shock to many is that he won three Mr. Olympia titles while working in the police department. He had a tough and hectic life as it was difficult to take time out for training, meal prep, etc. while managing a full-time job with a sport like bodybuilding, which requires constant attention.

He was eventually forced by his superior to quit the job, which led him to focus solely on bodybuilding. There are many videos available on the internet of Coleman from his time as a cop. One of the most-viewed videos among these is that of Coleman getting ready for his shift, where he can be seen in a pair of shorts that belong in the police uniform. Joe Rogan, the UFC color commentator, had some interesting questions for Coleman regarding the shorts when he appeared on episode 1489 for a podcast with Rogan in 2020.

Being a mass monster during his prime years, it was obvious that regular clothing could not be of any help to ‘The King.’ Unlike his other colleagues at work, Coleman’s massive muscles could not fit in the pre-made sizes available in the police uniforms. For this reason, Coleman admits that he had to stitch his shorts himself.

“You were so big; you’re sitting there with the uniform on. I’m like, there’s no way that’s a regular uniform. Did you arrest people with those shorts on?” inquired Rogan. Coleman gave a fascinating reply, “No, I made those shorts myself, but we did wear shorts though.” Rogan further asked, “Did that inspire other guys you worked with to start lifting too?” Continuing further, Coleman revealed that his physique and dedication did help a few individuals as they started lifting.

Coleman’s dedication to his sport says a lot about his work ethic. Despite injuring his back and going through multiple surgeries, Coleman still manages to train regularly. He won countless titles throughout his career with an injured back. During a podcast with New York Yankees owner and businessman Patrick Bet-David, Coleman revealed that he would have continued his job as a police officer happily if things went well.

I was doing two things that I love doing if I could have done if I could have done the police work until now,” said the muscle man. “They forced me.” Working in the police department didn’t bore him since he liked helping people. “My main thing I like helping people, and I like doing something different every single day,” concluded Ronnie.
