Being a Marvel superhero is not an easy task, because proving to the audience that superheroes exist needs a lot of training and preparation. The movies might have special effects and VFX, but the characters that are played by the actors need to look authentic. In this context, fitness and bodybuilding play a huge role. In the snippet from the upcoming book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, authors Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards describe how each actor prepared for their role as the Marvel superhero and how the casting came about.

Paul Rudd, who is most famously known as Mike from Friends, became the powerful character of Ant-Man, a.k.a. Scott Lang in the Marvel cinematic universe. He is known for his fun-loving and relatable personality for most of his career. However, he switched things up for the MCU franchise not only with acting but also with his transformed physique.

While speaking about the Marvel fitness regimen, he said, “It’s probably changed my life.” He was gratified for the grueling training and said, “It’s completely changed the way I eat food and work out. Fitness and diet have become something at the forefront of my life: that was never the case.” Even after the movies, he kept on repeating the exercise routine in his daily life, because he changed his lifestyle for the better. Rudd has been active in the film industry for almost three decades, and for the majority of his acting career, he got the image of a relatable guy. Rudd could be a funny guy or even a caring partner, but no one would visualize him as a superhero.

However, everything changed when he became the face of Ant-Man and showed his jacked physique in the movie. His training routine included fast cardio and strength training. Other than that, his training mostly included functional training and a combination of weight training as well. He was featured in the Men’s Health magazine previously and spoke about his role as Ant-Man. The very first discussion was about his physique.
