Yates revealed during his recent Instagram post that he appeared a bit flat due to over-dieting that season.?“In 96, I felt that I was a bit too flat and drawn out, I wasn’t entirely happy with my physique but still,?I was supremely confident in winning,”?Yates wrote. Continuing further, he revealed,?“Backstage, I usually kept myself to myself, the mental game of bodybuilding was insanely high backstage. All your rivals together in one place, trying to get a mental edge over one another.”

Backstage, bodybuilders are surrounded by fellow competitors, each showcasing their sculpted physiques. This environment intensifies the tendency to compare oneself to others, leading to self-evaluation and self-criticism. As a solution for this, Yates disclosed the habit that he followed backstage. He said,?“I always left my tracksuit on until the very last minute as I would feel every eye glancing at me from my competitors.”?
