Seven-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger’s transition from the realm of bodybuilding to Hollywood was a smooth one. While he made his debut in 1970 with the film ‘Hercules in New York,’ this was also the year when he won his first Mr. Olympia title. However, little did he know that he already had a rival waiting for him in the world of action movies.

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are two of the greatest actors when it comes to action movies of the 1990s. The duo has a long history of rivalry, which fortunately later turned into friendship. Among countless other similarities that fans can point out in their movies, another co-incident that happened back in 2012 was when the duo got operated on the same day, in the same hospital, and that too for the same injury.

Sylvester Stallone’s funny remark on the incident

While Arnold Schwarzenegger has been open about his issues with his aging body, it seems like he is not the only one battling this issue. Stallone, who is 77 years old, also feels the same troubles at times. A while back, when Stallone was featured on the daytime talk show ‘Sherri,’ he revealed that, in a surprising turn of events, he and Arnold were in the same hospital at the same time for the same surgery. This made ‘Sly’ wonder about the similarities that the duo had.

Taking a look back at the time, Stallone revealed in the show, “I’m going in at 9, he’s coming out from an eight o’clock, and literally our gurneys meet. I have a hypothermic needle; he’s all wrapped up, same arm, same rotator cuff. I go, I said, “God, how did I not marry this guy?””

Stallone’s bromance with Arnold Schwarzenegger

As ‘The Austrian Oak’s surgery was scheduled before Stallone, he was shifted to a different room after the operation, where Stallone was waiting for his turn. However, “Sly had told [the staff] not to start the surgery until Arnold woke up, so when [Arnold] woke up, [Sly] was right there”. Later, Schwarzenegger posted an Instagram post about the situation too.

Posting an image of him along with Stallone on hospital beds, Schwarzenegger wrote, “After all the action, stunts & physical abuse shooting The Expendables 2 and The Last Stand, it was time for a little tune up on my shoulder. Look who was coincidentally waiting in line behind me for his shoulder surgery.”
