This year, Mr. Olympia 2023 was a hard match in the Men’s Open category between Hadi Choopan, Derek Lunsford, Samson Dauda, and Brandon Curry. Everyone expected Choopan to secure his title this time as well, just like he did the last time. However, Lunsford won the Mr. Olympia open division and became the first bodybuilder to win in two different divisions in the competition. After the Competition was over, there was also a controversial opinion that Persian Wolf stormed off the stage when they were posing. However, it was cleared by Lunsford in the conference when he spoke about the emotions that a bodybuilding pro goes through.

Amid all this, veteran bodybuilders such as Samir Bannout and Dorian Yates still believe Hadi Choopan should have won. Let’s see why they think so.

While speaking about the Men’s Open division, Dorian Yates had a strong opinion on who should have won, and according to him, it should have been Hadi Choopan. He said, “Last year I saw Hadi in person which I haven’t seen…” The Shadow continued, “So it’s hard to say precisely but just from that it looks a little bigger maybe not so hard as before but still I would say he was a clear winner in terms of overall balance and density and condition of the muscles like he was still the winner. Whether it was the better version or not.”

He explained why the Persian Wolf should have won by giving proper technical aspects, such as his conditioning, and overall density of muscles as well as the balance. Even Milos Sarcev agrees with Yates and believes Hadi Choopan should have won.

The Serbian coach and bodybuilding pro recently appeared in RxMuscle and gave his opinion about the winner of the men’s open division. RxMuscle shared a video on their YouTube channel titled “HEATED WRAPUP! DID DEREK DESERVE WIN?” The Serbian Coach Milos Sarcev said, “He could have been four times Olympia Champion now, and he got a one and he lost, so he didn’t defend the title. In this kind of condition, the whole country is behind him. It’s a huge disappointment even though Derek is his teammate and a friend, you know what I mean, you know on the stage they’re not friends and they are rivals. He was disappointed.” Dave Palumbo retorted that “it’s easy to be friends with someone when you’re beating them.”
