The movie Gladiator helped lead actor Russell Crowe become an international sensation back in 2000. The film won five Academy Awards apart from a spectacular run at the box office. Almost after two decades the brilliant director Ridley Scott is gearing up to bring its sequel to life.

The opportunity to play the lead landed up with Paul Mescal who rose to the limelight after featuring in Normal People. Now, the BAFTA-winning actor is training hard at the gym to ace his role of Lucius.

The Oscar nominated actor was seen lifting some heavy dumbbells in black shorts during his bodybuilding routine. The ripped avatar of the 27-year-old is evident from the video posted on Twitter. He could be seen grunting while working out his reps.

He is probably acing a version of side delts in the clip. The video was posted by a Twitter account named “best of paul mescal“. The caption of the post read, “The man is training hard! Paul Mescal is already working for his new character in Gladiator 2!

Going by the comments on the post, the training video was apparently shared by the actor’s coach. Fans were awestruck by the Irish actor’s shredded physique and determination. Paul Mescal is already setting the bar high for his performance in the next installment of the stunning Gladiator. Though Mescal will be associated with the film for the first time, many actors will reprise their roles in the sequel.

Lucilla, the mother of Lucius, was enacted by Connie Nielsen in the 2000 film. She will continue her role in the sequel as well. Her reprise came after she revealed her desire to be a part of the sequel in an interview in 2020, per EW.

Derek Jacobi will also entertain as Gracchus in the sequel as well. The director is also associated with the production of the film under his Scott Free Productions.  The filmmakers are planning to release the film on November 22, 2024.
