“I Give Up”: 57-Year-Old Veteran Bodybuilding Beast Enraged Over Sad Reality of Social Media

While there’s no doubt that the world of bodybuilding is male-dominated, the aspect has its pros and cons. On that note, a golden era great recently expressed his concern. After a successful IFBB career, former bodybuilder Milos Sarcev now holds a notable coaching record. He trained the 2023 Arnold Classic champion Samson Dauda and is a deeply involved coach. Thus, in a recent Instagram post, Sarcev expressed his concern about the biases of social media.
In an elaborate note, the athlete presented a stark contrast of audience engagement in the post’s caption. Sarcev claimed that an intense workout session with pro bodybuilder Regan Grimes received a mere 100 views and few likes whereas a brief workout with a fitness influencer, Britt Johnstone, with 40.4k followers, broke the internet.

The Instagram post surfaced on the 59-year-old athlete’s page hours ago, igniting much discussion within the community. A long, descriptive caption aptly expressed Sarcev’s thoughts on the matter. He explained his point of concern with the example of a rigorous workout session with Canadian athlete Regan Grimes.

Despite showcasing a diverse session including crazy giant sets, Spanish curls, Canadian presses, Serbian squats, and many other demanding exercises, the video failed to get any recognition from the audience in the form of views and likes. “I can train @regangrimes until he turns green…Crazy giant set, some “exotic” exercise, super heavy, super slow, static contractions…and we would get 100 views and 3 thumbs up,” the Serbian pro wrote.

However, a momentary workout featuring fitness influencer Britt Johnston and Grimes amassed 22.9 million views and numerous likes. Thus, disappointed by the scenario Sarcev insinuated his defeat from social media. He wrote, “Here comes @brittjstone… tells Regan to do static Brittney holds with prolonged (10 seconds) peak contraction… and 20 million people tuned in… I give up!” Similarly, another professional athlete addressed a similar concern based on social media trends.

Taking to Instagram, pro bodybuilder Maria Wattel decided to point out a concerning facet of the new era of social media. The Dutch athlete shared a photo of her shredded self, and noted in the caption how it would not intrigue the audience. She claimed that since her picture is not “extreme enough” it may not be of interest to social media.
“But what a lot of viewers don’t realise, is that most of the things that look extreme are complete and utterly fake,” Wattel added. Thus, urging them to choose between the real and the fake world. This revelation stems from her dilemma with gender biases in bodybuilding and fitness, which although have not been able to subdue her passion for the sport.

The social media generation has significantly affected every sphere of the world, from entertainment to business. Hence, it is not surprising that athletes like Sarcev and Wattel are suffering from those changes. However, a more aware and sensible approach by the users might be able to tackle such issues and use social media to everyone’s benefit.
