Bodybuilding is a sport that requires dedication, discipline, and a comprehensive approach to training and nutrition. While the use of steroids in bodybuilding can have an impact on physical development, it is crucial to recognize that steroids do not override the importance of a nutritious diet. Rather, they should be seen as an additional tool that requires proper support from a well-balanced eating plan.

In his YouTube video on his channel, Renaissance Periodization, Dr. Mike Israetel discussed the differences in recovery between natural and steroid-enhanced athletes. He emphasized that, regardless of performance-enhancing drug use, a disciplined approach to nutrition remains critical for achieving success in bodybuilding.
Dr. Israetel debunked the misconception that athletes using steroids—commonly referred to as ‘gear’—can ignore proper nutrition and indulge in junk food. Per him it is rather misguided and potentially harmful. He stressed that while steroids may boost muscle growth, they cannot replace a healthy diet. He pointed out that if you are willing to damage your body by taking anabolics, you shall make sure to optimize other crucial aspects like training, diet, and sleep as well.
