“It Is Hard! But There Is a Reason…”: 71-Yo Spinal Fusion Survivor Recalls Year’s Worth Intense Prep for a Special Milestone

Renee Landers decided to change her lifestyle for good after a lumbar fusion surgery in 2009. She joined a gym and focused on her fitness routine a decade back. Witnessing her strength and physique, her trainer encouraged her to participate in bodybuilding competitions. An initially reluctant Landers soon gave in and competed in her first bodybuilding show at the age of 69.

The show made her realize her passion and since then the grandma has taken part in five competitions. At the age of 71, she is gearing up for her 7th show, the NPC Masters nationals. She recalls her year-back prep session before the upcoming event in her latest Instagram post.

The bodybuilding grandma clubbed her old posing video with inspirational audio.“When you take the chance to go after your dreams when you take the risk, sure you may fail! But what if you fly, what if you could impact and change millions of lives,” are the motivating words of the audio in a man’s voice. 

These words had a deep impact on the 71-year-old bodybuilder who confessed,I love the words this man is saying.” Landers admits that she doubts herself often and the question of succeeding in qualifying for a Pro Card is on her mind of late. But she is inclined to change her attitude.

“Still a Work in Progress”: 13 Years After Spine Surgery, 71 YO Grandma Defies Odds by Training for Bikini Championship

Instead of stressing about whether or not I have a chance at a pro card in 6 weeks, I’m going to focus on the impact I might have on others, “ she wrote in her caption. As much as she wants a Pro card in the upcoming event, she is grateful for impacting lives with her inspiring journey. “Not many 71 year olds are doing what I do… It is hard! But there is a reason I am where I am…here’s to making a difference!” the proud grandma claimed in the post. The granny has been training for the past 11 years and is not inclined to retire anytime soon.

The grandma and her 11 years of consistent training

Renee Landers very well understands the essence of consistency and patience. She credits her physique as a septuagenarian to her training routine apart from a healthy diet. “What you see with me is 11 years of consistently lifting weights…and good nutrition.…” she wrote in one of her posts.

Having tasted the fruits of fitness, Landers is not planning to give up her active lifestyle and competitive spirit anytime soon. Her passion for bodybuilding is quite evident with her rigorous training and posing sessions for the upcoming NPC masters nationals show. Renee Landers took to fitness for an active lifestyle but time has made her a bodybuilding champion.
