Joan MacDonald has set the standards for fitness very high. She took to bodybuilding at the ripe age of 70 years after feeling hopeless with multiple health concerns. The fitness enthusiast is also an author who wrote the book ‘Flex Your Age’ along with her daughter Michelle. The 77-year-old grandma now feels much younger than earlier and penned a long post about her fitness journey on her Instagram profile.

According to her, she is living proof that age really doesn’t matter, as she weighed 198 lbs in her seventies, and with the support and her effort, she lost an incredible amount of weight. And in the post, she encourages her followers to take up the fitness path irrespective of age.

Joan MacDonald’s fitness journey

The old grandma had lost the battle with health issues until she found hope in her fitness-freak daughter. The latter introduced her mother to an online women’s group who were on a journey of well-being and health. MacDonald decided to join the group, but it wasn’t an easy ride for her.

I won’t lie – it wasn’t easy. I had to learn about macros, create balanced meals, and even start lifting heavy weights in the gym!” She wrote in the post, which has a picture of hers that reflects her bright smile. She credits her weight loss transformation to the constant support she received from the group and her daughter.

Today, at 77 years young, I’m a completely different woman,” she wrote in the post feeling grateful for her incredible fitness journey and the changes she embraced throughout. She wants to inspire fitness enthusiasts with her journey and wrote, “Take inspiration from my journey and know that it’s never too late to turn things around.” Joan MacDonald’s Instagram grid also gives a glimpse of her diet regime.

The fitness influencer grandma’s diet regime

In one of her earlier Instagram posts, MacDonald wrote in the caption, “Eating well doesn’t have to be complicated!” She often has oatmeal with berries and protein supplements or a veggie egg white omelet with some cheese and toast for breakfast. Her post-workout meal includes white rice or rice noodles, broccoli or beans, and ground beef. For a snack, she would delish some Greek yogurt, whey, and berries. She fits in some Nutella as a part of her daily macros.

Her last meals would be ratatouille and salmon or a yogurt dish. The author loves her meal plan and is quite proud of the journey she chose over the past few years.
