Chris Bumstead is known for both his physique in the bodybuilding world, as well as valuing his privacy in his personal life. However, after winning five Mr. Olympia back to back, the bodybuilder is more open about his life, in particular his personal struggles. In a recent video, not only did he talk about his confidence regarding announcing his winning possibility but he also pointed out how he dealt with public speaking before and how it has changed over time.

CBum had confessed that he had been going to speech therapy before because of a physical aspect. However, the issue with his public speaking and public portrayal of confidence has never been brought up much until he decided to change it. Before his 5th Olympia win, Chris Bumstead announced that he was going to win because he now understood what he was capable of. In regards to public speaking, he walks on a similar trail.

Chris Bumstead’s anxiety about public speaking ebbed away

In his recent Q&A session, Bumstead was exclusively replying to a question regarding his confidence boost after 4 Olympia wins. He stated in the video, “I’ve been super nervous and anxious to do public speaking my whole life, and the more and more I started to do it, the more and more I just started to build confidence in it.” Chris Bumstead clearly defined how confidence was built upon by repeated practice at the things he was most anxious about.

Furthermore, CBum also reflected how public speaking, in fact, had a greater effect on his overall life. He commented, “When I built more confidence in public speaking, I built more confidence everywhere in my life.” Bumstead also touched upon the fact that he always hated being near a lot of people and being subjected to socializing, thanks to social anxiety. However, things have changed and he feels more confident about everything.

Chris Bumstead also revealed how he had trouble speaking physically before. As he was talking about his speech therapy, his coach, Hany Rambod discovered a new thing about Chris Bumstead.

In one of his training videos with his then-newly appointed coach, Hany Rambod, Chris Bumstead revealed something shocking to Rambod. He talked about his difficulty in speaking. He declared, “I can’t speak very well”. Then the bodybuilder further added, “I need to go to Speech Pathology class. My tongue doesn’t know how to speak the English language.”

While Chris Bumstead seems to be well-spoken at the moment, he still suffers from a lisp that occasionally comes out. However, with his growing confidence, he finds it a little better to do public speaking even while having difficulty in speaking.
