Many bodybuilding icons like Hadi Choopan, Nick Walker, Samson Dauda, Andrew Jacked, and Derek Lunsford are competing in the Open category this year. However, the eyes are set on Chris Bumstead, when it comes to the Classic Physique category.

CBum recently declared that he would compete in the event despite a hard start to the preparation. Now, he put forth an analogy to describe his bodybuilding journey for this year.

Chris Bumstead’s path towards 2023 Mr. Olympia

The bodybuilding world has witnessed many Mr. Olympia champions since the inception of the competition in 1965. The sport resembles strength and power, given the ripped physiques of bodybuilders. However, Chris Bumstead, a 4x Mr. Olympia champion in the Classic Physique division, is vocal about his lows.

The 28-year-old transparency about his vulnerability despite being the bodybuilding icon resonates well with his fans, who respect him for his character. Recently, on his YouTube channel, the icon opened up his favorite analogy for his bodybuilding preparation for this year.

“You see your goals for the forest, and then you get into the forest, and everything kind of closes in,” he said in the video before describing the chaos that engulfs him after realizing lost in the forest without a direction. However, CBum emphasizes taking one step forward in the hope of reaching his goal. “So, I’m doing is taking this one step at a time one work at a time one day at a time,” he summed up. Earlier, he confessed his decision about his retirement on Instagram.

Bodybuilders’ lives are not devoid of injuries, given the heavy-weighted duties they do at the gym. CBum’s journey is no different. Despite being a 4x Mr. Olympia champion, Bumstead had his share of struggles during his journey. He suffered from a bicep tear last year, just before the Mr. Olympia event.

He also dealt with health issues related to kidneys. Despite his difficult circumstances, the champion never gave up on the stage and successfully earned his trophy. Now, he is aiming for his fifth Mr. Olympia title after disclosing that the time for retirement has not yet arrived. However, he said that sometimes it is more courageous to quit than to stick around because of familiarity or attachment to the sport.
