‘King of Squats’ Jay Cutler Spills the Beans on How to Perform Perfect Back Squats

As a high-volume quad trainer, Jay Cutler has always made sure he does the toughest training to bring about the best in him. Along with his philosophy of “Grow ‘Em & Show ‘Em”, Cutler, who could squat 700 when he was only 19 years old, accomplished many levels of leg development. Decades later, he still practices the same and continues to improvise with his leg routine.

Claiming that he is the King of Squats, Jay Cutler started imparting his valuable squat knowledge to help the fitness community maintain the right form while doing squats. In his latest YouTube shorts video, Cutler announced that he would be talking about back squats. He revealed how he likes to keep the bar a little low on his neck when he performs this exercise. He suggested that one should keep their head up in the process as well. Then Cutler explained, “Really, if you keep your head back and up a little bit it’s going to help with your plane as you go down.”

Moreover, the bodybuilder reverted to his mantra of “A** to the grass”. He directed that one should go both deep and parallel as they approach this exercise. “You want to do clean repetitions with the squats okay?” Cutler added, calling back squats “the meat and potato exercise” that will give one the best leg development. “It is ideal in your workout every single week,” he recommended.

In a viral video, Cutler was seen talking about how he used to back down on his leg routines. He confessed that even in high school, he faced some issues because of the shape of his legs. Cutler said, “I remember even in high school having trouble fitting jeans, and my thighs just because of the shape.”

The bodybuilder also talked about how once he started training and his leg muscles morphed into something greater, he had a massive “quad sweep” and had no difficulty in building his leg like others. He added, “You know it was just genetically a gift for me and I’ve been known as you know one of the best bodybuilder legs of all time.”
