Arnold Schwarzenegger learned bodybuilding techniques as a teenager which led him on the Mr. Olympia path. However, he never only trained his muscles but also focused on his mind to become successful in multiple other arenas. The 76-year-old wants the world to follow his winning mantras to become successful in life.

The Austrian Oak, who recently published a self-help book, Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life, unravels the similarities between muscle and mind and reveals how failures can help make them stronger.

Growth is a crucial aspect of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s life. The 15-year-old Arnie was intrigued to grow his muscles at the gym to become a world-famous bodybuilder. The action hero stint in Hollywood helped the Terminator Icon grow in versatility. But it would be a lie if one says that Schwarzenegger never failed. Instead, multiple failures at the gym helped him to train even hard.

So, Schwarzenegger emphasizes embracing failures as they help them to grow. “If you find excuses for your failures, then you will never learn, and you will never grow,” Schwarzenegger revealed in The Issue Is for FOX 11 Los Angeles. Schwarzenegger shared a clip from the show that reflects on how training till failure helps muscle growth.

The more you give the character your head and your brain resistance, the more you make it struggle, and the more you make it suffer, and the more you’ve experienced defeat and all of that kind of things and recognize it and then try to repair it again, the stronger it will get.” But did Arnie follow his theory in reality? The world never gets bored of Schwarzenegger’s bodybuilding stories. The 7x Mr. Olympia champion trained till failure at the Gold’s gym to build the most cherished physique of all time. But the gains were not easy. Arnie once opened up about how he failed in his iconic 500 lbs bench press before finally acing it.

I remember the first time I tried to bench-press 500 pounds. It was in front of a packed house at a powerlifting championship in Munich. I failed miserably. The weight came down. I couldn’t even lift it off my chest one inch,” the bodybuilding legend confessed. After failing nine times to bench-press 500 lbs, Arnie accomplished the task for the tenth time.
