Without proper precaution, training, and a good spotter, it can be extremely harmful to try to lift heavy weights. Proving this to be true, a man recently attempted a whopping 545 lbs on bench press when suddenly he lost his grip. Fortunately, he had legendary powerlifter Larry Wheels by his side, who saved the man’s life.

Larry Wheels comes to the rescue and saves the man’s life

While lifting heavy at exercises like squats, bench, and deadlifts can be fun and provide a nice adrenaline rush, it is important to understand that compound exercises are also one of the most dangerous ones if not done properly. As a man recently attempted a 545 lbs bench press lift, Larry Wheels, who is one of the most renowned powerlifters and strength sports athletes at this point, was fortunately there to spot the man.

The video perfectly depicted the importance of having a spotter by your side at all times. The world of fitness and bodybuilding has already seen multiple deaths due to the absence of a good spotter. It was Wheels’ quick thinking and immense strength that proved helpful in saving the man’s life. 

Wheels and his superhuman strength

The narrator of the YouTube video explained, “This guy was just about to attempt this crazy 247-kilogram bench press when something unexpected happened. He lost his grip on the bar. And without Larry Wheels’ lightning-fast reflexes, this could have turned into an ugly situation.”

The incident happened just a short while after a 25-year-old lifter from Wuhan died while benching in the absence of a spotter. To make things worse, the man did not even have safety bars in place. Incidents like these serve as a wake-up call for all of us to ensure safe practices while lifting iron.
