Bradley Martyn has faced depression and has seen his father’s depression taking him away from the Younger Martyn. Years later, when he is nearing the same age at which his father committed suicide, the fitness and bodybuilding influencer talks about the harsh reality he had to face at a young age and how fitness almost became his escape at first, and later his passion.
Only aged 34, Bradley Martyn is already the CEO of his own company Zoo Culture. The bodybuilder who never really participated in professional competitions before had previously mentioned how politics within the bodybuilding field does not let a bodybuilder have a better reach. Now that a film is made about his life, he talks about an intimate relationship within his family and how much it has affected him mentally.

A curated video picked from his movie, Generations Iron focused on the part where Martyn talked about the death of his father. He said that his father was absolutely clinically depressed and then he went on to state, “My father hung himself when I was 6”. Almost nearing the same age as his father was when he committed suicide at the age of 36, Bradley Martyn has started thinking about how he might react, genetically.

Moreover, the bodybuilder went on to say, “He had a real issue. I think I have some of those too, to be honest”. But then Martyn also said that his depression is not a constant thing, it comes and goes at times. Yet, it has highly infiltrated his mind so much that soon after he started going to the gym. He stated, “I found the gym and it changed my entire life.”
Although as passionate and dedicated as Bradley Martyn is towards bodybuilding and fitness he has not been competing in professional bodybuilding for a while. He had recently confessed the reason behind it as well.

After winning a competition on his second try, Bradley Martyn has always been quite thrilled and motivated towards the sport however, while being new to the industry he had heard rumors that people without the support of an organization or established and standardized coaches cannot ever get up on their feet properly. He stated, “Man f**k this industry, f**k these people.”
Being a bodybuilder in an ever so competitive industry does have its own perks and cons. Especially when it comes to rumors, many bodybuilders can get easily diverted, however, Bradley Martyn chose a career that initially brought him much escape from his anxiety and depression from his father’s death. And years later, he is still passionate about it just not as a professional competitor.
