While the sport of bodybuilding focuses on intense training and strict dieting leading up to competitions, the off-season is a crucial and often overlooked phase in a bodybuilder’s journey. Big Ramy, also known as Mamdouh Elssbiay, has won the Olympia title twice and was previously recognized for his massive physique on stage. However, recently, several prominent figures have advised Ramy to take a few off-seasons to focus on improving his physique.

Ramy’s recent performances have been nothing but shocking for the fans as he placed fifth in Olympia 2022. Mr. Olympia’s head judge Steve Weinberger has openly admitted a few times that Ramy needs an off-season to return stronger on the stage. Quite recently, another bodybuilder-turned-YouTuber Dave Palumbo suggested he take a break from the stage temporarily. The fitness community also added their views about this in the comments.

What did Palumbo say exactly?

Palumbo started by agreeing with what Weinberger had to say about Ramy. He pointed out that Ramy needs to work on his upper body as his legs look way bigger in proportion to his upper body. Palumbo suggested a solution by recommending that Ramy take an off-season and switch to using free weights instead of cables and machines. He elaborated that since Ramy was currently injury-free, this would enable him to start from the basics and rebuild his physique.

“He’s got to go back to free weight movements…he’s focusing too much on machine work.” Continuing further, Palumbo also suggested, “Start training with someone who’s hungry and upcoming and likes to train hard and push to the point of uncomfortableness.”

Palumbo explained that using free weights forces the body to use stabilization, which helps with the overall development and growth of the body and not just one muscle group. However, the fans in the comment section weren’t convinced that Ramy shall even try again. Most of the fans expressed their opinions and pointed out that this was the end of Big Ramy’s glorious days.

Ramy was a fan-favorite athlete a while ago when it came to open-class bodybuilding. He was known for his sheer size and muscular package that made him lift the Sandow trophy twice in his life. However, his recent performances and standings in the bodybuilding arena have made the fans question whether it’s the end of Ramy’s career. The comments on this video from the fans were full of backlashing comments towards the Egyptian bodybuilder.

One of the fans commented on the post, “He should not compete any more, it is not getting better. He can look back proudly on what he has achieved,” whereas another user reacted by saying, “Ramy is the Oil King ,,, unbelievable he should be DQ.” Another person pointed out in the comments, “Ramy’s atrophy is due to his body no longer being able to hold the muscle. It happens to all the mass monsters,” whereas one of them wrote, “Once the judges get you in the crosshairs it’s over.” A comment by one of the viewers also read, “His body is saying no more. He needs to come off the juice and retire.”
