Arnold Schwarzenegger asks fitness enthusiasts to start early to extend their life

Writing in the newsletter, Schwarzenegger stated that it is essential to start the journey towards a healthier life as soon as possible. “New research suggests that the earlier you start, the more you can extend your life,” he wrote.

One can add more than two decades to their life span if they adopted eight habits in their 40s, Arnie added, citing research. “Scientists studied more than 700,000 people who were age 40 and older. The goal was to identify behaviors associated with better health and lifespan. Three behaviors — a lack of physical activity, opioid use, and smoking — were associated with up to a 45 percent increase in death during the nine years the study took place,” he stated.

Arnie also listed out the habits and explained how adopting them would help the lives of fitness enthusiasts.

The eight habits included being physically active, being free from opioids, not smoking, managing stress, eating a healthy diet, having good sleep hygiene, not regularly binge drinking, and having positive social relationships. According to the Terminator star, inculcating these behaviors “made a big difference.”

What was Arnold Schwarzenegger’s unhealthy habit?

Despite his focus on fitness and training, the Austrian Oak was also a prisoner to a specific unhealthy habit. During his time as the California governor, Schwarzenegger was so inseparable from a Cigar that he found a way to not give up on smoking even in the capitol building, a no-smoking zone.

The then-governor became the first person to conduct important meetings in a smoking tent, making it his de facto office. The tent even had a humidor to make things easier for legislators who detested smoking. It also comprised of bowls of peanuts to snack on, bottled water, and an ashtray. However, Schwarzenegger’s dedication to his followers is seen in the fitness tips he provides them. This has attracted them to his “village,” which has since grown to 431,000 members and counting.
