His friend and companion in the journey of his career, Franco Columbu is no more, yet the 76-year-old bodybuilder still keeps him in his memory and still raves about how he could lift way more than guys who were bigger than him in size.

Franco Columbu was only 5’4. With many fun memories along with his training partner, Schwarzenegger also recalls the astounding stunts Columbu used to pull at the gym. At the seminar of Arnold Classic 2024, the bodybuilding icon recalled the old glory of the late bodybuilder.

Schwarzenegger recalls Columbu’s greatness

Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed to the audience how Franco used to lift very heavy weights. So much so that people who were larger than his size could not even go near his level. He also said, “He would be doing press behind the neck for that I mean you don’t see anyone with 185 to do this and not even the big guys do this kind of weight.”

The discussion further went on to declare how Franco had even gone to the stage of World’s Strongest Man. Bob Cicherillo also mentioned how his strength was proven when he beat many contestants on that stage. Furthermore, when he inquired whether Columbu was 5’4 on a good day or not, Schwarzenegger contradicted him hilariously suggesting how he would have to wear high heels to get that height.

Once Schwarzenegger had revealed how he and Franco had met shortly after he immigrated to America. Then he also revealed how it is unimaginable for him to look at the walls of Venice and recall that they also aided in its construction. Finally, Arnie also revealed how he and Franco might have done something borderline illegal. He confessed, “I don’t recommend embedding broken glass in walls as Franco did in one of our first projects though. That is only legal in Sardinia probably so we had to go back and remove it all,”
