American pop artist Selena Gomez has recently been the subject of hate and internet trolls after she suddenly put on weight. In 2015, Gomez was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune illness that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks one’s own tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems — including kidneys (as stated on Mayo Clinic’s website). Back in 2017, Gomez underwent a successful kidney transplant but has been on heavy medications ever since. These medications led to a sudden weight gain in Gomez’s case, which made her the target of online body shaming.

IFBB Pro Greg Doucette has been addressing the wrongs that have been going on in the fitness industry for ages now. Being a person of short stature, Doucette has been a target of ‘name-calling’ himself, so he understands how bad it can be and came to the rescue of Selena Gomez in a recent YouTube video.

Selena Gomez has been open about her struggles with lupus and her kidney transplant. In her 2022 documentary, ‘My Mind & Me,’ she revealed more about the pain that lupus has caused her over the years. With all this buzz going on, YouTuber and fitness coach, Greg Doucette, came to Gomez’s defense. He posted a video on his Instagram account in which he empathized with her medical condition. Addressing the trolls, Doucette said, “And what some people don’t know is that she has lupus! She literally had a kidney transplant! She’s on serious medications to control her health.”

Continuing further, he disclosed, “She’s on steroids! Not bodybuilding steroids like testosterone and so on but various steroids to control her lupus, and what some of these medications do, is they increase your appetite. They also cause you to hold more water.”

Concluding his words, Doucette stated, “Imagine suffering from lupus and having people make fun of you for how you look.” Many people appreciated Doucette’s video and praised him for stepping out in support of Gomez. She has also used her platform to raise awareness about the disease. Selena launched the Rare Impact Fund, a $500,000 fund to support research and advocacy for rare diseases.

This wasn’t the first time when Doucette raised his voice for someone outside the fitness industry. A short while ago, Greg showed his solidarity towards singer-songwriter Ariana Grande too. Let’s take a look at what exactly happened.

Grande has been a victim of body shaming too

Grande is also going through a lot of negative comments about her body at the moment after her recent weight loss. She posted a TikTok video recently addressing the long-running comments she has been receiving about her body. Grande said they were “comparing my current body” to “the unhealthiest version of my body“. Showing his support for Ariana, Doucette posted a video on his channel titled “I’m Sick Of This!! Ariana Grande”.

Doucette pointed out that Grande has been the center of attention for years now because of how she appears, but ever since her recent weight loss, she has been criticized a lot. Doucette said, “In actuality, she is much healthier now. She said so, but she felt worse, and was less healthy when in fact she was bigger.” Doucette also mentioned that she was on heavy anti-depressants and consuming a lot of alcohol back when she was weighing more.
