The world of bodybuilding has just witnessed the crowning of a new Olympia champion as the 2023 Mr. Olympia came to an end moments ago. Dethroning the reigning Olympia champion Hadi Choopan was none other than the American bodybuilding sensation Derek Lunsford. However, amidst an array of stellar performances, it was his humility that stole the show.

Derek created history by becoming the first bodybuilder in the history of the sport to become an Olympia champion in two different categories. As Derek just became the 18th Olympia champion, let’s take a look at the short speech that he gave moments after lifting the Sandow trophy.

Former 212 champion Derek Lunsford received a special invite from Mr. Olympia LLC to compete in the open category last year. After making his debut at last year’s contest, Derek came second to Hadi Choopan. He came prepared this year and proved his mettle by emerging victorious. While Lunsford became the first double champion in Mr. Olympia’s history – with both the 212 and Sandow trophies to his name – what seems to have clinched the deal is the monstrous development of Derek’s back.

After being crowned the new champ, Lunsford gave a short speech saying, “I’m just, listen I’m just a guy from Indiana, some kid from Indiana that didn’t know what he was gonna do with his life. He found the gym and fell in love with it. And here we are making history… two division Olympia Champion. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much.”
