Seven-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger made sure to leave a lasting legacy through his ventures in the realms of bodybuilding and acting. The secret behind his success was the fact that he pursued a career in the things that he absolutely loved, due to which it never felt like work to him but like a hobby. In his recent book, ‘Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life,’ Schwarzenegger talks about all the life lessons he has learned over the years.

At one point, he explained that to succeed in life, one should pursue the things they loved in their initial years, just as Schwarzenegger did. As he had a dream of becoming a Hollywood star and a bodybuilder since childhood, pursuing this dream ensured that he gave his best and, in turn, succeeded. Talking along the same lines, Schwarzenegger explained why Serena Williams and Venus Williams were the only ones who succeeded out of the five siblings.

Despite his retirement from the sport decades ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger remains one of the most influential figures in the realm of fitness and bodybuilding. Schwarzenegger believes it was all because he listened to his inner self and followed the path that young Arnold loved. Arnold used tennis superstars; the Williams sisters’ example for the same. He revealed that out of the five siblings, only Serena and Venus Williams had an obsession with tennis. And so, the duo made it big in the sport.

“A lot of people don’t know this, but their father, Richard, exposed all five of his kids to tennis when they were young, and they all had talent. But it was only Venus and Serena who showed passion for the sport,” Arnold revealed. Continuing further, he wrote, “Obsession. And so tennis became the framework for how they grew up and how they saw themselves.”

It was like a dream come true for Arnold when he first got to America. With only a gym bag full of ambitions, Schwarzenegger was riding high, waiting for the perfect opportunity to prove his mettle in the realm of bodybuilding. Schwarzenegger anticipated that America would be a place where bikini models and sports cars would surround bodybuilders, as is typically the case in movies. However, he soon understood that these were all in movies, not in real life.

A while back, during an event at the Academy Museum, ‘Arnie’ opened up about this and admitted, “What I read in the magazines that it’s huge, guys getting into movies with bodybuilding, become businessman, successful, and making millions of dollars, none of it was really true.”
