When thinking of the sport of bodybuilding, several great names may pop into one’s mind. Assuredly ‘The King,’ Ronnie Coleman, is a constant on the list. Having earned eight Mr. Olympia titles as one of the only two athletes in the world to do so, he has cemented his name into the sport’s history. While Ronnie sports his usual fun self, he is aware that no one shall ever replace his finesse in the sport.

Ronnie Coleman believes there would be no other

In a resurfaced interview, the 59-year-old athlete dealt with a question with the utmost honesty and reason. The host pondered over the GOAT’s opinion on the bodybuilding world getting another Coleman. Hence, The King firmly denied having any such notions, explaining it to be a result of time.

“No, because the times have changed, you don’t have to be a bodybuilder, though, 100% committed to being a bodybuilder. As a bodybuilder, there’s so many other ways of making money now and have all these social media,” Coleman reasoned. Insinuating the standard of training the past athletes had to put in, the IFBB legend asserted that such a level of finesse simply does not exist today.

Although the money-making potential of bodybuilders might have increased over time, the commitment is comparatively lower among youth. The athlete added, “You don’t have to do that no more; yeah, you guys are starting their own supplement companies now, yeah, their own t-shirt company, and all this other stuff you can do.” Similarly, Coleman once made another innuendo on the adverse effects of social media in the sphere.

Ronnie Coleman once blamed social media for rising criticism

After former Mr. Olympia Shawn Rhoden guest posed at the 2019 Pittsburgh Pro event, fans were not impressed with his physique and deemed it “out of shape.” They criticized the athlete on most social media posts from the event. Thus, Coleman addressed the issue in an interview once.

He sided with Rhoden and struck up a stark contrast between the past and present. He claimed that guest posing in his time was usually irrelevant and didn’t catch the community’s attention as much. However, with the advent of social media, it has become more accessible to fans. “Back in those days, nobody judged anybody by how you looked at a guest posing. We didn’t have that social media either,” The King recalled.
