When Derek was asked about what he truly thinks about ice baths, he instantly dismissed the claims that suggest cold plunges can be a more effective fat burner than diet or exercise combined. Then the Youtuber suggested three possible positives of the cold plunges.

Derek says cold plunges can push your fight-or-flight hormones

Cold plunges as a method for weight loss seemed baffling to Derek. He stated that although the most common rumor about this is wrong, cold plunges have their own benefits. “I think cold exposure is good for pushing the endogenous release of catecholamines, so by that, I mean your fight or flight hormones,” Derek explained. He also explained how doing a cold plunge helped in making people alert and functional.

Addressing whether it inherently benefitted performance enhancement, Derek said that it can be helpful for athletes who are in need of recovery. “I think in an anti-inflammatory context for athletes, it would be useful for recovery purposes and rehabilitation and what not but for like anything to do with fat loss, it’s not lowest hanging fruit.” Moreover, he also explained that the whole process was both expensive as well as time-consuming. According to him, people could walk an extra thousand steps at that time. “You should be using it for mental fortitude, getting wake and alert, or anti-inflammation, I think these are the three kinds of main things I would be using it for,” he explained.

As such opinions showcase, Derek has never been one to shy away from making his thoughts known. Not only the Liver King, this YouTuber did not hesitate to comment upon one of the greatest fitness icons of all time, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Derek comments upon Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ster**d usage

In one of his YouTube videos, Derek once focused on an article by Men’s Health, where Arnold Schwarzenegger had revealed the two performance-enhancing dr*gs he used, “Testosterone and D-Bol.”

Upon further investigation, the YouTuber found out how Schwarzenegger’s claim about the testosterones aligned with one of his previous interviews where he mentioned the same amounts except for his D-Bol usage. Although Schwarzenegger had later shown his disagreement with the usage of the ster**ds, Derek visibly presented his support for the Austrian Oak and mentioned, “As if it’s like the most egregious regimen ever. It’s like literally borderline replacement bro.” According to Derek, Arnie’s ster**d usage was mild compared to today’s bodybuilders.
