Lack of mobility through weight training left Dorian Yates in terrible balance

Dorian Yates recently appeared in an interview with Escape Fitness. The YouTube Channel of the same uploaded a video of it on 20th May 2023. In the interview, Yates talked about his journey as a bodybuilder and how he started yoga recently. While he was doing yoga, he realized he had a lack of mobility. Citing the reason, he said, “lack of mobility and flexibility that you get from doing years of weight training.” Further discussing the drawbacks of excessive weightlifting, Yates mentioned, “My balance was terrible. I couldn’t stand on one foot without falling over all the time.”

Yates also shared his thoughts on the difference between mentality in bodybuilding and yoga. He said that the yoga teacher told him not to try so hard. He further said, “Because that is, you know, what I am used to doing, so in yoga, it’s if you try so hard, you just make it harder. So, you’ve gotta learn to relax.”

The Shadow had some philosophical outlooks after doing the yoga classes and said some profound things. He said, “I learned that that’s kind of like life when the stressful periods come along, we start to tense up and it doesn’t help you know?”

Dorian still gets stressed out

Yates might be a champion in bodybuilding, but even he gets stressed, as he stated in the podcast. However, he also shared that he can deal with stress a lot better after starting yoga. He has learned to be more flexible, not only physically but also in life. Yates has had his share of pain, as he stated, ” I have torn triceps and biceps…but my mobility is greatly improved.”
