While many sports end up making athletes rivals in professional and personal lives, the former World’s Strongest Man proves that Strongman actually works a different way. In his latest video, Brian Shaw featured some of the most iconic American strongmen including, Evan Singleton, Bobby Thompson, Thomas Evans, and Trey Mitchell.

The strongman who recently announced his retirement after his 2023 show explained how the background of the video portrayed bars, which is indicative of a certain deadlift day. The most enthralling part of it is how these professional rivals gave each other support in this unofficial meet-up devised by Brian Shaw.

After having four American strongmen over, Brian Shaw explained the reason why he gathered these potential competitors together. He stated, “These guys are all prepping right now for the world’s strongest man so I figured it’d be fun to have them in, have some fun, get some training in. I always loved having a crew around me getting ready for big events.” In fact, throughout the video, Shaw made jokes and had wholesome moments with the participants. In one of the funny incidents that the video showed, it was first suggested they’d draw the order in which they would do deadlifts via rock-paper-scissors. However, in the end, they drew numbers to “make it real.”

The deadlift setup that Shaw arranged, on the other hand, was not exactly how it would be in the main event. It was slightly less. He pointed out, “A deadlift ladder first bar 600, second bar 650, third bar 700, fourth bar is 750 final bar is 800.” But Brian Shaw felt that even though the weight is less, it would help people feel how the transition happens during the real event.

“If they do America vs Europe again this needs to be the team. That way you and Eddie are team captains and we crush them,” one wished, hoping for these strongmen to represent Team USA. Another hinted at how Brian Shaw could become a national coach, as he was able to gather such great athletes together and train them. They reflected, “seems team USA has a national coach now.” Yet another fan commented, “I love the fact that you’re all more than just competitors, in most sports people view their competitors as being the enemies, but in strongman you all get together and share tips and tricks, i love it!”
