People think that with age there is a decrease in energy and an increase in health problems. This is not completely true, as there are some people who prove this to be wrong. Among them, is Red Lerille A.K.A Lloyd Lerille, who is the winner of several bodybuilding titles that include Mr. New Orleans in 1955 and AAU MR America in 1960. He also served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. Even now, at the age of 87, he has no plans to retire or stop his 1 a.m. workout session.

In a recent interview with Joanna Brown, he talked about his lifestyle and fitness journey. He also talked about the largest fitness center that was made because of him.

Red Lerille does not plan to retire

In this latest interview, he talked about his workout regime as well as the huge fitness center, along with titles he won in his youth. While speaking about his workout, he said, “I work every body part four days a week.” Red continued, “I used to ride a bike on the street, but I don’t anymore. I used to fly airplanes. Now I try to be sensible. You do get old, thank goodness.”

He has reduced his workout from flying airplanes to going to the gym. Red Lerille also has a health and racquet club that turns 60 in 2023. Lerille’s dream and hard work built Lafayette’s largest fitness center, and now it has 20 acres of land on Doucet Road.

There are thousands of visitors who exercise in his gym, and Lloyd seems to be very happy with his decision. He had set the plan in motion when he was only 7 years old and now it has come to life.

While describing his dream further, he said, “I put a picture of Mr. America on my wall because I wanted to win.” The champion further stated, “Everybody who won Mr. America opened up a gym. It was just the way it was.”

He did win Mr America title in 1960 and after 3 years, opened up this gym. Red also has a rule that he maintains in the gym. He makes sure to tell every member ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ as they pass the front desk.
