Bodybuilding isn’t at the top of the list of a money-making profession. Many people hold the belief that bodybuilders often struggle to make significant money and rely on prize winnings or sponsorship deals. However, Jay Cutler, a millionaire bodybuilder with four Mr. Olympia titles under his belt, challenges this notion. The Olympia superstar was given the same advice that making money in this profession would be a tedious task. But the legendary bodybuilder had the genes of a businessman!

Cutler often grabs the limelight with his intense workout regimes and unique bodybuilding advice. But the 49-year-old recently made highlights when he opened up about his different approach to bodybuilding.

Jay Cutler opened up about his family background

The 4x Mr. Olympia champion recently appeared for a podcast on the ‘Don’t Be Sour’ channel. In the podcast, Cutler revealed that when he was diving into the sports of bodybuilding, a lot of people told him he won’t make much money out of it. Fortunately, the star bodybuilder was already financially successful before he entered the world of bodybuilding; thanks to his family business.

He candidly shared that his financial success prior to bodybuilding was due to his involvement in his family’s business. In the late 1980s, he was making a significant income of $500 a week. “I was making money at 11-12 years old, I was in high school driving nice cars and you know I was making 500 bucks a week back in you know the late 80s.”

Being the youngest sibling and still making $500 a week during that time was no small feat. It showcased Cutler’s ability to make money outside of the bodybuilding arena. Hence, he was confident about his entrepreneurial skills. But the road to being a successful businessman was not an easy walk.

Cutler’s journey of making his own brand

Despite coming from a successful financial family, Cutler had to work hard to make his own brand successful. In an interview last year, the 59-year-old bodybuilding expert recalled his journey from being an entrepreneur to a successful businessman. Cutler said, “I started a mail order, and it’s kind of comical; I would sell one picture of myself and one t-shirt. And people would send me money orders and checks and I started kind of my business at that point. Every week I was getting individual money from basically a nobody.”  

He made millions from selling t-shirts because no one was doing the same at that time. He thought ahead and even planned for his future.

After his retirement, the legendary bodybuilder also revealed that he embraced investing in the estate business as his go-to idea. He also has his own website where people can buy supplements and apparel. Without a doubt, he remains an important figure in the arena of bodybuilding. What do you think?
