Teofimo Lopez’s highly awaited title defense is just a day away. The American will take on George Kambosos Jr. in the Hulu Theater at the Madison Square Garden. Lopez will look to defend his titles and stake his claim as a legit champion after winning the belts last year.
In an interview with Michael Benson, Lopez revealed all, as he discussed the issues with present-day boxing. Lopez asked Benson, “How did Devin Haney receive that belt?”
Benson replied, saying the WBC upgraded Haney from the interim champion. Lopez basically tried to say that Haney was not a legit champion and that the WBC handed him the belt.

Lopez then spoke about his experience during the US Olympic Trials. “They did this to me back in the US Olympic trials of 2015. In 2015, I won the US Olympic trials, for USA in the Olympics. For the Olympics, for 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.”

“I’ve won it. I earned it in Reno, Nevada… You see the list, Shakur Stevenson, Nico Hernandez, Antonio Vargas, Gary Russell. You know, the whole thing, the whole nine. Teofimo Lopez was on that list and you know what they did with that? They gave me a damn piece of sh*t medal, Gold, right? But it wasn’t gold, it was gold, you know, nice little small medal, says 132-pound winner.”

“They pushed me to the side, and then they put this other guy, named Carlos Balderas right. And they put him in there, in the ring, while I had to sit there and watch after winning the US Olympic Trials, crying at 18 years old and seeing them do the political sh*t that they do in this sport,” Lopez said.

No respect between Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos Jr. at the final press conference
Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos faced off during their last press conference before the fight. There was no love lost between the two fighters as they stared at each other for a solid minute.
The situation between the two fighters had turned sour earlier this week when George Kambosos Sr. man handled Teofimo Lopez Sr. when Lopez Sr. walked aggressively toward the Kambosos camp during a media workout.
