It’s been an interesting year for the partnership of Anthony Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn. The two have navigated really volatile waters in the boxing realm as many of his undertakings have either encountered trouble at the last minute or in the negotiation period. His last fight against Dillian Whyte is an example. A much-awaited third installment in their long-running rivalry, the fight collapsed just a few days ahead of its slated date.
Owing to Whyte testing positive for a drug test, the fight saw its knell. With just a few days left for the fight, and big stakes for AJ on it, Hearn went out in the wild to look for an opponent befitting to the occasion. He had to find someone who was in AJ’s league but would not give him a lethal challenge to victory. Hearn landed AJ a suitable opponent: Robert Helenius. Less than a week before the fight night! Furthering his acumen as a start promoter, Hearn has hinted at yet another fight for Joshua.

Anthony Joshua to get a winter fight ?
Massive bucks are at stake for the fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. The two Heavyweight boxers have been undertaking negotiations for a while, but no finalities have emerged. While fans await these details, the boxers too would have this fight sooner rather than later. However, observing the prolonged delay in getting this fight on the road, most fans assume that the destiny of this matchup has not come through. But Hearn has some clarifications to make.
In a recent media interaction, the British promoter revealed that the negotiations for this undertaking are in their final leg, and the fight will surely take its course. Hinting at a possible winter fight night, Hearn said, “There’s ongoing conversations at the moment. In the Middle East for that fight. We want to make that fight, we’re also in negotiations for a fight with Anthony Joshua, this December, because if he doesn’t fight Wilder in January I think he will fight in December. But we’ll see what happens this week.”
However, the promoter also sought more time for the finalities to be declared. He said that no big announcement is to be anticipated this week. However, he did further hint at a massive AJ fight in the winter. He said, “That’s not part of our big announcements this week. But I don’t think it’s too far away. There’s a good chance we will be in Abu Dhabi in December, but nothings confirmed yet. And we’ll see how those conversations go over the next few days.”
A busy season ahead for AJ
The British promoter seems to be on a roll when it comes to spilling the beans about upcoming AJ fights. One fight in this package is that of AJ vs. Tyson Fury. Yes, the world might finally see the two lock horns very soon. In another media interaction, Hearn told the interviewer that he’s looking for the AJ-Fury undertaking sometime early next year. The promoter said, “Look, don’t be completely shocked to see AJ-Fury early next year.”

This development comes in the wake of Fury claiming earlier this year that his team had sent over a contract to AJ’s clan. However, the other side refuted these claims. They further said that they did receive a proposal but a contract never reached them. The two heavyweight fighters have been waiting for their clash for a while now. Their await dates back to the time when AJ was still a unified Heavyweight champion.

However, Hearn has not done away with the idea of these titans clashing. But his priority remains the best interests of his fighter. A true promoter of his kind, he said, “We’re not closing the door on a Tyson Fury fight. We’ve just to make sure Anthony Joshua’s career goes to plan and smoothly and not messed around by other people.”

The first attempt at this bout was made in 2021 when a Saudi Arabia matchup was drawn but it collapsed soon after. A US court was of the opinion that Deontay Wilder deserves his rematch with AJ before the latter fights anyone else. Now, with Hearn hitting at December for this fight, it seems like the two will finally get their trilogy fight.
