Canelo Alvarez and Andy Ruiz Jr. both are gearing up for their upcoming fights. Alvarez, for Gennady Golovkin on September 17th, and Ruiz Jr., for the Cuban boxer Luis Ortiz on the 4th of the same month. Alvarez, in his last fight, fought light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. Bivol outperformed Alvarez and the bout ended in the former’s favor. Bivol and ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez will collide, and in the first half of 2023, Alvarez will have the fate to fight either Bivol or fellow Mexican ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez.

Alvarez recently rebuked the idea of fighting one of his countrymen. Following Alvarez’s late remarks on fighting his countrymen, the former heavyweight champion of the world, Andy Ruiz Jr. gave a briefing on “war”.

Andy Ruiz Jr. on why Canelo Alvarez will not fight ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez

According to Ruiz Jr., a battle between two Mexican fighters is nothing short of war. It is hard to make a Mexican fighter give up, and since they are able to take and observe hits well. Ruiz Jr. made a reference to his fight with Arreola and said this:

“We all take hits and we all receive them good you know, and we could take punches. That’s why it goes back and forth, back and forth. That’s how it was with me and Chris Arreola. It was going back and forth even though I got hurt. The Mexican in me made get back up and win the fight.”

Maybe this is the only reason Alvarez would refuse a fight with fellow countryman Ramirez. The following is what Alvarez said, “If Zurdo [wins] – I don’t want to fight with Mexicans.”

“I don’t want to fight with Mexicans. I think Zurdo has a lot of chance to win, and I want him to win. If he wins, we will see if I want the rematch with Bivol, I don’t know.”
