The hostility between Shakur Stevenson and the Devin Haney Team continues to escalate. In his latest take, the latter’s father-cum-trainer, Bill Haney levied some serious accusations at Stevenson regarding the secret recording of conversations that questioned the ethical conduct of the fighter.

The two leading factions of the lighter-weight classes have been staunch rivals for a while. A fight between them seemed plausible last year. But, ‘Sugar’ reportedly leaked a video of Bill Haney explaining that his son would not clash with the fighter, even if it required Devin Haney to move up the weights. Those leaks were not taken nicely by Bill. It seems like he remains on the edge regarding it even now. He used that as a reason to explain why he’d rather not work with Stevenson.

Invasion of Privacy or an Expose?

The video leak could not be the best practice for Stevenson, ethically. However, boxing enthusiasts have argued that the video did expose that the Haney clan was not ready to fight him, unlike what they were claiming publically. For Bill Haney, the entire idea of secretly recording someone is a big deal breaker.

Fight Hype sought to know why things went wrong between 26-year-old Stevenson and the Haneys. Bill noted, “He was secretly recording me, you know what I mean? And you all laugh and play games like as if we turn off the cameras and I’m still recording you guys when you guys say something. Y’all going to be mad as hell. All four of them cuz you going to say some shit in confidence that we’re talking that different.”

Bill Haney contended that when the cameras are off, recording him without his consent was a breach of his privacy, something that he doesn’t abide by. He further explained, “But if we need to cut these cameras on and be real about it, we all men and we all stand on business. But no matter how respectful we are, when we turn the cameras off, should be no reflection of how we get down when time comes to get down.”

It’s been a while since the secret recording fiasco. However, Bill Haney remains convinced that Stevenson is not a good pick of an opponent for his son. He has another reason to back his argument.

Shakur Stevenson is Not Even a Backup Opponent for Devin Haney

In light of the concerning and erratic social media behavior that Ryan Garcia has shown lately, many, including New Jersey native, Stevenson believed that the fighter would pull out of his scheduled fight against Devin Haney. Hopping on to this opportunity, Stevenson revealed that he reached out to Bill Haney to get on the New York fight card if things went south with KingRy.

Bill Haney, while replying to Shakur Stevenson’s offer, said, “I’m not doing anything to jeopardize that [Garcia fight]. I can’t negotiate with or accept any offer from anyone. F*** Shakur Stevenson. This is all some bullsh*t. I thought he and ‘Tank’ [Gervonta Davis] were going to fight? What happened to that?”

Bill Haney further declared that Stevenson brings nothing to the table for his 2 division world champion son. Bill Haney noted, “[Stevenson] had a terrible performance last time. What makes you think we want to fight you? You bring nothing to the table.”
