

The world of sports recently woke up to some devastating news. It was recently reported that the well-loved British television sports presenter, Dickie Davies, passed away due to age-related issues at 94. He was known for presenting the World of Sport from 1968 until it ended in 1985. Davis was not just popular in the British sports scene, he was one of the most widely recognized faces in the world of sports broadcasting. His passing deeply saddened the sports community. And tributes poured in from both the sports fraternity and fans.
Davis is undoubtedly a legend in his field. He got his first shot in the world of broadcasting as an announcer for Southern Television. And later went on to work at ITV’s World of Sport in 1965. It is worth noting that he was the understudy of the legendary Irish television presenter, Eamonn Andrews, at that time. Davis played a major role in the coverage of the three Olympic Games. Moreover, he also presented multiple boxing matches, including fights with legends like Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali.

Davis’ former colleague Jim Rosenthal took to social media to announce his demise. And also gave an insight into his illustrious career. Additionally, Rosenthal was also quick to mention that Davies will be sorely missed.
Tributes pour in for Dickie Davies
Davies’ demise deeply affected both the sports community and fans. In fact, a lot of notable names took to social media to offer condolences on his passing.

Former managing editor for the Ring Magazine, Tom Gray, voiced the boxing fraternity’s emotions while offering condolences. Moreover, he shared a snippet of Davies analyzing Ali’s fight against Leon Spinks in 1977.
