The former unified lightweight world champion, Teofimo Lopez, is one of the biggest phenoms of the lightweight division. He currently holds the IBF lightweight title, and formerly held the WBA (Super), WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles, before losing it to George Kambosos Jr in 2021. In fact, Ring Magazine even ranked him as the third-best active lightweight in 2022. While these laurels currently adorn his illustrious career. He recently shared a video from the year he turned pro. And the one who was seen showing him the reins was none other than Floyd Mayweather’s father, Floyd Mayweather Sr.

Lopez was last seen securing a sensational victory against Sandor Martin on December 10, 2022. While fans liked his performance, fellow lightweights Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia, joined hands to take swipes at him for his victory.

The recently reposted video, from 2016, showed Lopez in an outdoor mitt session with Mayweather Sr. It should be mentioned that the then 19-year-old Lopez showcased an impeccable skillset during the session. Moreover, Mayweather Sr. also looked impressed by his performance.

Fans were impressed with the 19-year-old Teofimo Lopez

A lot of fans felt that Mayweather Sr. should have been Lopez’s trainer from the beginning. In fact, they even took to the comments to share their thoughts about the same.

Michael Cole was open with his comments. He said, “Teo got hella potential. He just needs a new trainer.”

Similarly, Carlos R mentioned, “Brother. Your potential is infinite but you have certain ppl holding you back.”

And, Hermer Contreras added, “Bro needs a trainer I mean good to have your father. But he’s not a trainer.”

Meanwhile, Alex mentioned that Mayweather Sr. would have been a better trainer. He said, “Imagine Teo with Mayweather Sr in his corner, boy would have no limit.”

Sakhile Hlomulka, on the other hand, felt, “You need him now. You are such a talent. We are grateful for your dad he has done so much for you. But now u need to level up.”

In the same vein, Manny Jackson added, “This would change ya career too god-like ur already there. But it’s time to go ultra instinct.”

There is no denying that the oldest member of the Mayweather clan guiding you is certain to make you a better fighter.
