Following two title wins this year, Canelo Alvarez seems to have taken some time away from the boxing ring. While he was rumored to return on Mexican Independence Day, the same may not happen any longer.

The P4P king has walked away from a potential unification fight against IBF champion Caleb Plant, which has reportedly fallen away because of contractual turmoils. However, Alvarez has still assured his return to be a day for all the Mexicans. The three-belt unified 168 lbs champion took to Twitter and teased a possible return date.

“It does not matter the day I fight, the day my fight is the day of all of us Mexicans,” wrote Canelo Alvarez.

Following wins over Callum Smith, Avni Yildirim, and Billy Joe Saunders, the P4P king grabbed WBC, WBO, WBA, and Ring Super middleweight titles. He was only short of Caleb Plant’s IBF strap, which validated a fight between them. As that fight has fallen through, Matchroom Promoter Eddie Hearn is already looking at a few more potential opponents.

Canelo Alvarez’s champion status and fame will bring him rivals from several weight classes. Besides, many champions have already expressed an interest in fighting him. So, it doesn’t seem to be a hard task to bring back Alvarez against a top-tier name.

Dmitry Bivol might be the most prominent name to welcome the Mexican star back to action. Bivol’s unbeaten resume cites that he may have an advantage against Alvarez.

According to several reports, the possible fight between Alvarez and Bivol might happen at catchweight, i.e. 168 lbs-175 lbs. While Alvarez is a champion at 168, and Bivol at 175, either man would have to shift a division for the fight. Considering this, Hearn appears to have come up with a unique solution.

Despite the catchweight talks, Bivol’s WBA title might remain on the line, but nothing is official as of now. Also, we can see several more names emerge into the mix.
