Canelo Alvarez Will Have to Wait Longer Than Expected to Avenge Dmitry Bivol Loss

WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol has his priorities set for his journey in his division. Meanwhile, pound-for-pound superstar Canelo Alvarez has been eyeing a rematch with Bivol in his quest for light-heavyweight glory. Notably, Alvarez had previously lost his light-heavyweight debut match against Bivol in May 2022. However, it seems like Alvarez’s wait to avenge his loss just got a lot longer. Bivol recently announced that he wishes to fight for the undisputed title before even considering a rematch with Alvarez.
Marcus Hayes of Fight Hub TV recently caught up with Bivol at a local show in Los Angeles. And was sure to quiz the champ on his plans for the year 2023.

Dmitry Bivol has his priorities set for 2023
In conversation, Hayes asked him about his plans for the year 2023, with a special emphasis on his potential undisputed showdown against Artur Beterbiev. Bivol was quick to respond expressing interest in the same. And also mentioned that it was his goal to become the undisputed champion.
Hayes further asked him about the Alvarez rematch, “There’s been a lot of talk about fighting Canelo for a second fight. Where does that lie in your priority levels these days?”

However, Bivol assured him that becoming the undisputed champion was his main priority.

Canelo Alvarez will have to wait longer
In a later online interview, Bivol cemented his decision to wait a bit more for his rematch against Alvarez. He mentioned that he would not be surprised if Alvarez wins the rematch. And also stated that Alvarez is a champion, and stressed that champions win rematches. He was further asked if he wished to have a rematch with Alvarez. In response, Bivol expressed a lack of interest by saying, “Of course, the better way for me to move forward. To move up. But, we can talk about the rematch, but it’s not interesting for me as it was before.”
Moreover, he touched on the Beterbiev fight once more. And mentioned that he wished to have the fight before having a rematch with either Alvarez or Gilberto Ramirez.
