Teddy Atlas and Mike Tyson have had a long history of animosity. From training a young Tyson to having a fall-out and then making up again, there has been a lot. However, it is all in the past now. Both the legends have come together to help the gritty Francis Ngannou give his fans the best boxing debut they could possibly ask for. The “Predator’ will be facing the heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury inside the ring on 28th October. Tyson is confident of Ngannou’s punching power. However, he lacks in experience that Fury so proudly holds.

With days remaining for the clash, multiple prominent figures in boxing have shown up in the gym to train Ngannou. First Carlos Takam and now Atlas, ‘Iron’ Mike does not want any compromises in prepping the MMA fighter for a punch-down.

In a resurfaced video uploaded by FightHype.com on YouTube, Atlas can be seen checking Ngannou’s uppercut technique. He gives him some valuable input as well. The commentator was trained by Mike Tyson’s coach, Cus D’Amato himself. Moreover, he was one of the first to train Tyson. The experience and grip he has over the sports are unmatched.

Atlas gave the analogy of a tall building with fragile glasses. He said, “Being tall is nice. Except when you’re tall right in front of a guy. Then it’s not so nice. You know why? You’re a big building with windows. Some people like to break the window. This is the body. You want the right to the head.” While going against Fury, Ngannou has to be careful about building a good defense. According to Atlas, standing tall right in front of your opponent gives him enough opening to land a punch.

Decades ago, the experienced coach Atlas eventually started working alongside the legendary trainer Cus D’Amato. Among his responsibilities was training D’Amato’s young prodigy, Tyson. Unfortunately, their partnership came to an abrupt end in 1982. The catalyst was a disturbing incident involving a 15-year-old Tyson, who had inappropriately touched an 11-year-old relative of Atlas.

A furious Atlas confronted Tyson, displaying an immense protective instinct. Events escalated as he held a gun to Tyson’s ear, sternly warning him never to harm his family again. In 2013, Tyson reached out to Atlas for reconciliation. The two have maintained an amicable relationship since.
