“Disastrous” – Mike Tyson Describes His Return to the Ring

It’s never easy to step inside the boxing ring. Add the fact that a fighter is 54 and will lace up his gloves to take on another legend only showcases the magnitude of the challenge and the strength of his resolve. The same can be said about 51-year-old Roy Jones Jr who will take on one of boxing’s greatest KO artists, Mike Tyson.

While the bout is just around the corner, the journey hasn’t been an easy one for both the boxers. In conversation with the media during the final weigh-ins, Tyson opened up about the disastrous beginning to his training camp in preparation for the bout.

Tyson said, “Well, the first thing was disastrous. During that session of boxing when I was getting shellacked, never once did I think, ‘what the f*** am I doing here.’ It was like, ‘I belong here.”

Mike Tyson has battled with several difficulties in his personal life. However, the former undisputed champion finds himself in a much better position both mentally and physically ahead of the Jones Jr. bout. Needless to say, ‘Iron’ has gone through hardship in the training camp ahead of the highly anticipated exhibition bout.

However, he will believe that his effort has been worth it once the bell rings.

Mike Tyson takes on Roy Jones Jr. inside Staples Center

The hugely awaited return of Mike Tyson after almost 15 years against former champion Roy Jones Jr. is being billed as “Frontline Battle.” Additionally, the winner will be crowned as the WBC Frontline Champion.

Tyson vs Jones Jr will be an exhibition bout. However, the lead-up had indicated that the boxing world would witness a real fight. The organizers have clearly stated that they will score the bout. Furthermore, they will consider a knockout as a win for either of the boxers.
