Canelo Alvarez drew countless eyeballs towards himself with a terrific win over Caleb Plant in the undisputed title fight. Post this, the p4p king garnered even more attention by announcing his move up to the cruiserweight frame to challenge the WBC cruiserweight champ, Ilunga Makabu.

Subsequently, there have been many rumors regarding Canelo taking on the other champions of this weight class. Moreover, many fans even expressed their interest in seeing the Mexican superstar take on the ex-cruiserweight king, Oleksandr Usyk.

The unified heavyweight champion shed some light on his interest in battling Alvarez at the Cruiserweight frame. Citing all this, Canelo’s ex-promoter, Eddie Hearn, spilled the beans on a potential fight between the two.

Speaking to iFL TV, he said, “I think Canelo would fight Usyk. I mean, I think, obviously, it’d have to be an agreeable weight, and I can’t see Oleksandr Usyk coming back down to Cruiserweight.”

“But I personally feel, I know there’s discussions about Canelo and Makabu, I personally think that Canelo Alvarez should look to become undisputed at 175, I think he can do it.”

Usyk is on his pathway to becoming the undisputed heavyweight king. As a result, a fight between him and Canelo seems unlikely because ‘The Cat’ needs to prepare for the likes of Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Also, Canelo needs to beat Makabu first to help talks about a fight against the Ukrainian gather steam.
