There was once a time when boxing was known for iconic rivalries. However, recent times have seen boxers on a constant ‘beef-quest’ with former allies and contemporaries. The Ryan Garcia and Canelo Alvarez beef has been one of the most prominent grudges in the sport. This gripe between the duo has also evoked mixed reactions from the boxing community. In fact, Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently took a swipe at Garcia for the beef.

Mayweather was in a telephonic interview with FightHype. In conversation, he delved into the Alvarez Garcia issue. He initially shed light on the fact that Garcia used to look up to Alvarez. Mayweather said, “You see Ryan Garcia, first he’s praising Canelo. Right? He wanna learn from Canelo. You’re in Canelo’s training camp.”

Further, Mayweather also spoke about the beef between the duo, mentioning that Garcia should first accomplish what Alvarez did. He said, “Now it’s all hate. Oh, I don’t like him. I don’t like this. Accomplish what Canelo has accomplished, then speak bad about him.”

Additionally, he also advised Garcia to stay in his lane, stating that he does not have to speak badly about Alvarez, regardless of what he has accomplished.

However, all was not well in paradise as Alvarez made some startling statements about ‘KingRy’. Notably, Garcia had taken a year-long hiatus to work on his mental and physical health. Talking about Garcia’s hiatus, Alvarez said, “Ryan has a lot of talent, but to me, in my eyes, he’s wasting a lot of time and wasting his talent. I look at him and don’t see him 100 percent dedicated and, to us, that’s a bad signal.”

Garcia, who considered Alvarez an older brother, was hurt by his statement. He even stated that Alvarez knew about the situation revolving around his mental health. While this led to their fallout, boxing fans hope that the duo will put aside their differences in the future.
